CakeFace
Patisserie

Cakeface is the brainchild of pastry chef duo Laura & Rory. Returning to Ireland after years of working with the best pastry teams in France and London namely The Savoy, and Café Royal. The wanted to create their own special brand in Ireland, and Cakeface was born. Their trademark pastries are unique, quirky and out of this world, and this is coupled with a strong coffee philosophy and savoury offering. We worked with Laura and Rory to translate their ambitions for their spectacular creations and café.

The logo was inspired by the shapes and decorations of their pastries. It is intended to feel like it was created using strands of molten chocolate or caramelised sugar. The playful mark pushes the limits of legibility by merging the idea of a graphic motif with a logo. The mark is applied in black and contrasted with a neon palette referenced from their pastries. This stark contrast conveys a precise, pseudo laboratory effect to the brand and the interior space.

The brand concept was extended into the product photography where we elevated the pastries into otherworldly works of art with bold graphics and sci-fi scenarios. The mix of neon and white is softened with solid oak table tops with neon accents, and a set of playful framed illustrations. The letters of Cakeface made from a variety of shapes ‘hidden’ along the bottom row. The brand identity was rolled out across the café, lab, interiors, photography, labelling, coffee cups and website.
